Hope

When sadness overwhelms me
And troubles pile so high
There seems no way around them,
I think I want to die.
When fear and doubt are rampant,
And I want to run and hide,
There's no relief, no solace
In anything I've tried.

I stand and look around me;
The sun is shining bright
Upon the barren frozen earth,
But Spring's almost in sight.
Beneath the snow the flowers wait
To bloom in all their glory,
All nature soon will be awake
To tell the age-old story

Of love and resurrection;
For 'though our days are dark,
Beneath the pain of our despair
There is a tiny spark
Of hope. If we will see it,
And nourish it with prayer;
Our troubles all will disappear,
And joy will vanquish care.

A Patch of Blue

by Lucy M. Young

A patch of deep blue sea above the city skyline
For fluffy white cloud ships to sail upon
God knew we needed something bright and cheery
After cloudy days of rain and gloom
So thank you, Lord, for this small piece of April
To help us through the last grim days of March.

Blue Skies of April

by Lucy M. Young

Blue skies of April
Loveliest of the year
Shining through my window
Drying up my tears.

Winter was so lonely -
Bleak and cold and drear,
Easily forgotten
Now that April's here.

New green leaves and swelling buds
Bring new hope and cheer;
Dandelions, fresh green grass
Remind us God is near.

Blue skies of April
Loveliest of the year
Bringing resurrection
And a bright new year.

The First Robins

by Lucy M. Young

Today I saw two robins on the lawn.
I watched them as they searched for food,
Their keen ears picking up the sound of worms beneath the sod.
How tired and hungry they must be
After their long, long journey from the South.

Dear Lord, watch over them, I pray.
Keep them safe and warm throughout the cold and darkness of the night.
Tomorrow help them find a nesting place secure from predators.
Then let their happy songs be heard
To cheer our winter-weary souls
And tell us Spring is here.
